PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Program A1: Grants and Other Resources

With increasing budget constraints, it becomes more challenging to provide programming and services. In this session, we will discuss some pre-grant application considerations, writing a grant proposal, administering a grant, and evaluating its success. We will also talk about other ways to procure goods and services for your library, while at the same time building community and corporate cooperation. Presented by Kathe Pinchuck, Past Chair of the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee of the Association of Jewish Libraries and former staff member at the Montclair Public Library.

Program A2: You CAN Do That at Your Library!

Don't let space, budget or fear of the unknown stop you from trying a BIG exciting program for your teens! Learn the ins and outs of how to plan for and execute lock-ins, art shows, festivals and more. Presented by Saleena Davidson, Youth Services Librarian, South Brunswick Public Library; Kimberly Paone, Director, Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library and Betsy Young, Youth Services Librarian, Somerset County Library

Program B1: Reading Buddies – Good for Teens and Kids! Good for the Library!

A library coordinated Reading Buddies Program pairs a teen with a young child to share a love of reading. A Reading Buddy program can be informal or very structured. Either way everyone benefits and it is a valuable way for libraries to support literacy. This workshop will be a basic “How-to” for libraries that want to start Reading Buddies Program. Presented by Judy Macaluso, Supervising Librarian, Branch Services (Formerly Teen Services Coordinator), Ocean County Library and Mary Piekarski, Supervisor, A/YA Services, Piscataway Public Library.

Program B2: Preschool Programming on a Budget

Do you have patrons that ask for more programs for preschoolers besides storytime? Learn about some well-loved (and inexpensive) programs that are asked for over and over again for children ages 2-5! Presented by Chrissie McGovern, Youth Services Librarian, Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library

Program C1: Keeping Up in the YA World for the Busy YA/Reference/Children's Librarian

Not sure who Justin Bieber is? Forgot to buy the newest book in the Private series? Nobody's attending teen movie night? Keep up with what's going on with YA collections, services, and your teens using websites, listservs and blogs. Feeling overwhelmed? Learn how to harness the power of Gmail and RSS to make keeping up with lots of information in limited time much easier. For YA librarians and directors/children's/reference librarians who also wear the YA hat in their libraries. Presented by Keri Adams, YA Librarian, Johnson Public Library, Hackensack, NJ

Program C2: Shadow Show – a Program for All Ages

Learn how to turn nursery rhymes and songs that you use during your every- day storytimes into a Shadow Show! Nursery rhymes and holiday favorites will light up the screen during this presentation and sing-a-long. This low-cost entertainment will be a big hit for both children and parents at your library! Presented by Lynette Fucci and Patti Pinho, Youth Services Librarians, Monroe Township Library

The NJLA Store will also have a table at the Forum so don’t forget to bring cash/checks or your credit card to purchase the great gift items!
